State Champions MSC U14 girls
For the first time in the 17 year history of the club the Monticello River Eagles have a State Champion title. The U14 girls won the Fall MYSA State Tournament the week end of Oct 15 and 16th, 2011. The girls got their berth to the State tournament by going 6-0-0 in regular season play, recording 6 consecutive shut outs and winning the West district. They traveled to Rochester and played their first Opponent, Unbeaten Hudson, and won that game 2-0. Their second opponent, Prior Lake, played them to a tie at 1-1, but Monticello prevailed in total points and earned a trip to the championship game.
In the championship game they played Hastings Futbol Club. After regulation time of 70 minutes it was scoreless. So they went into 2- 5 minute overtime periods. Aylssa Laumann scored a goal on a beautiful crossing pass by Samantha Hellman to put the River Eagles up 1-0. They then dominated possession for the final 6 minutes not allowing Hastings to get a shot on goal, and winning the game 1-0.
